Maritime Week to celebrate seafarers
Maritime Awareness Week will be held from October 25 to 31 to spotlight the maritime industry and seafarers' contributions, and promote maritime-related careers to young people.
The Marine Department said the week will mark the International Maritime Organisation's Year of the Seafarer and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong Shipping Registry's establishment.
The week will feature a seminar covering the Maritime Labour Convention, China Oil Pollution Regulation and Maritime Security, and another that will present a major research project's findings on ship-sourced pollution. A "Think Maritime Day", "Seafarer's Day", and the Maritime Fair and Government Dockyard Open Day will round out the week's activities, which will close with a community clean-up of Hung Shing Yeh Beach on Lamma Island.
