A consortium including Hyundai Merchant Marine will operate a new container terminal at Rotterdam Port in the Netherlands.
Hyundai's consortium which includes Singapore's APL (American President Lines), Japan's MOL (Mitsui O.S.K. Lines), France's CMA CGM, and DP World of the United Arab Emirates has been selected to operate the 156-hectare container terminal at the Maaksvlakte 2 harbor in Rotterdam.
The terminal will have seven piers, a 1900-meter long, 20-meter deep container terminal, and a 550-meter terminal for nearshore transport.
Its annual capacity will be four million TEU. (1 TEU equals one 20-foot container.) The consortium will operate the terminal for 25 years after it opens in 2013.
Hyundai Merchant Marine currently operates container terminals in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and Long Beach and Tacoma in the U.S.
