Regional Work Programmes

NCLA – National Seafarers’ Welfare Boards in Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana & Surinam, continue to operate and progress to legally recognised status (where appropriate). 15 Port Welfare Committees have been established throughout the region.

Emphasis continues on setting up the structures necessary to support welfare work before any new/refurbishment of centres is considered. Language and IT training of welfare workers, coupled with ship visiting and the provision of welfare services has been the focus of the programme to date. A full meeting of the Regional Welfare Committee was held in Guyaquil (Ecuador) from 24 to 25 Apr 06.
