Offshore Production more and more important for Oil and Gas Supply Deep water production from the offshore sector will grow considerably in China and worldwide in order to further secure own supplies. Siemens has developed solutions to improve the reliability of and production time for offshore drilling and production platforms. Siemens is teaming up with Chinese shipyards to build up a reputation as key player in the international offshore market which is currently dominated by countries like Korea and Singapore. Offshore market moves from shallow water jackets to deepwater floaters.
The challenges in China lies in the exploration and development of new oil and gas deposits in areas that are more difficult to access, such as in the South China Sea. Towards 40 billion euros are scheduled to be invested worldwide in the development of offshore and deep-sea resources in the coming five years. Making use of these new energy sources imposes particularly high requirements in terms of integrated technological solutions for automation and the operation of production installations. At the same time a high degree of standardization is required in the plant technology in order to guarantee the safety of the plants, protection of the environment and economic efficiency of extraction. The I&S Group is one of the worldwide leading solution providers for EIT Solutions (Electrical, Instrumentation, and Telecommunication) in Offshore. Based on partnership and shared expertise Chinese shipyards and Siemens become international players for offshore shipbuilding.
This development imposes high requirements in terms of integrated (process) solutions, based on proprietary products and technologies. As a complete systems supplier Siemens offers Chinese shipyards integrated instrumentation and control technology, safety and security systems, power generation and distribution, telecommunications solutions and compression plants for floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units. All-embracing solutions on the basis of proven components ensure higher productivity at lower operating costs on floating or fixed-installation units.
