Arkhangelsk, which is appointed as capital for the Northern Sea Route, will play an important role in maritime logistics in the years to come. Prospects of oil and gas development are extensive in the Barents Sea and further east, and shipping in the Arctic is increasing. Recently two German vessels were the first to sail a commercial cargo through the Northeast Passage, and perspectives for more shipping through the Northern Sea Route are rather good because of a less ice.
The event Arkhangelsk Maritime Partenariate, which will take place here between 27th -29th of October this year, will gather private companies from Russia and Northern-Europe. The conference will organize business to business (B2B) meetings within the maritime industry, and also focus on the regions strategic location for offshore oil and gas activities.
Harald Sørensen, adviser at the Norwegian Barents Secretariat and one of the organizers of the conference, says that the Arkhangelsk Maritime Partenariate is a unique possibility for meeting business partners and at the same time being updated on current marine topics. Global development of shipping in the Arctic is one key topic at present.
– At this time, when the marked is down, it is important to focus on new perspectives and challenges, says Sørensen.
The conference aims at attracting high level Russian representatives from the federal and regional authorities and also companies like SovComflot, Murmansk Shipping Company, Sevmash- and Zvezdochka Shipyard.
