Seafarers seeking proof of ship security certificate

Source: Manila Standard

Nelson Ramirez, president of the United Filipino Seafarers, is urging the Maritime Industry Authority to present the certificate issued last month to m/v Princess of the South, allowing it to resume sailing.

He said the call was for the welfare and safety of the passengers and Filipino crew.

Ramirez asked the Marina board through the Office of Transport Security a copy of the National Ship Security Certificate because of reports of undue haste in the signing of the document at the authority’s office in Cebu.

When the m/v Princess of the Stars sank on June 21 last year, Marina grounded all vessels of Sulpicio Lines but later allowed cargo ships to resume operations.

Ramirez said the suspension of the firm’s vessels should remain until safety requirements have been met and the claims of the families of the victims are settled.
