MEXICO CITY: Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) has awarded a MXN 207.9 million (US$16 million) contract to Construcciones Mecanicas Monclova for the construction of a platform for the Kambesah field in Sonda de Campeche offshore Mexico. The platform will allow the operation of three wells using pneumatic gas pumping. Production will be sent to the Kutz-TA satellite platform, then onto the Akal-TJ.Para platform.

PEMEX subsidiary PEMEX Exploracion y Producción (PEP) issued a tender for the platform on May 19, inviting interested companies to submit proposals. Eleven companies expressed interest, with six presenting offers to PEP.

The Kambesah field was discovered in August 2008, south of the Kutz field. The field will produce up to handle to 13,700 b/d of oil and 9.3 MMcf/d of natural gas when it reaches peak production. Kambesah is believed to have recoverable reserves of around of 23.5 million barrels of oil.

Work on the platform will begin on Aug. 17 and is expected to last for around 210 days.
