MEXICO CITY: Mexican state oil company PEMEX and the Mexican oil workers' union, STPRM, reached an agreement in the biannual negotiations for the 2009-11 collective work contract, the company said in a statement, according to BNamericas.

The contract grants a 4.9 percent salary increase to union workers and a 1.5 percent increase in benefits.

"It's in line with the financial state of the country. Above all, it's positive news with the low crude oil prices PEMEX is seeing at the moment," a STPRM source told BNamericas.

"Both sides came together, and they reached an agreement that was good for both parties," the source added.

The new contract, which applies to more than 100,000 workers, comes into effect on August 1.
