News that Petrobras in Brazil is formulating requirements for very large numbers of PSVs, anchor handlers and other vessels have been confirmed.
According to broker Seabrokers, a staggering 146 new vessels are to be chartered by Petrobras between now and 2014, according
to the Brazilian company.
This is to be made up of 64 PSVs, 54 large anchor handlers, 10 tugs and 18 oil spill response vessels, with 70-80 per cent of the vessels to be chartered domestically (and thus built by Brazilian yards).
Said Seabrokers: "Recent massive finds offshore Brazil (Tupi and Cariocas for example) and an aggressive drilling programme requiring 40 drillships and semi-submersibles through 2017 will see these support vessels being well used."
