Though Maersk Line did not disclose the value of the 18 x 4,500 TEU newbuilds order it disclosed today, Hyundai Heavy Industries has subsequently issued a Korea Stock Exchange announcement that it had won an 1.2 trillion won ($1.2 billion) order to build 13 container ships for A.P. Moller-Maersk for delivery by October 2011.
According to a Reuters report, a Hyundai spokesman confirmed that these ships are part of the 18 ship package.
That would indicate that the total order for 18 ships is worth around $1.66 billion--and maybe more.
