Bourbon in France has announced that, in line with its Horizon 2010 strategic plan announced in February 2006, under which the group is investing US$1.6 billion in its offshore division, acquiring many new vessels and recruiting over 4,000 seamen by 2010, half of whom will be officers, it has decided to also invest in two simulator centres at which to train personnel.

Two simulators will be developed by Bourbon working closely with the Offshore Simulator Centre (OSC) in Aalesund, Norway, which has pioneered the concept of anchor handling simulators.

One of the centres will be located in France and the other in the Philippines.

The Offshore Simulator Centre will provides IT development and all display systems for the simulators.

The two simulators will enable Bourbon to facilitate standardized training programmes worldwide.

"These simulators are a major innovation," said Thierry Buzulier, Bourbon's Human Resources Manager.
